Hello friends! The Simplified team has been doing our best to show you all of the amazing trends for 2014. We want you to stay happy and current! 🙂
In this post I want to talk a little more about simple tips you can do to your home. Since some of the trends consist of major renovations, I want to remind you there are simple and pocket friendly updates that still take your interior to the next level. House beautiful is just one of many sites that give wonderful tips, most of them you can do yourself!
I have never thought about this! Now you can take your plain white closet doors and make them into an accent that looks like an art piece. Find a wallpaper that compliments the room and wallpaper your closet doors!
Also a simple and noticeable design detail! Pick an accent color that goes with the room and add a trim to your pendants and fabric light fixtures. A simple way to make a room or fixture look like a custom piece!
This can be a time consuming project, and you want to make sure you are fully dedicated to the design aesthetic. But how cool! This asks you to think beyond paint and wallpaper, and instead think about unique, textured, and eye catching walls! In this New York apartment designed by Phoebe and James Howard, plastic flowers hang on top of a fabric wall covering. The layering creates a really unique effect!
You may be like me and feel that committing to a pattern on all of the walls is a big commitment! This tip lets you explore the world of pattern, and bring pattern into your room without being overbearing or too big of an “oops” if you don’t like it! Find some timeless patterns, paint, a piece of furniture you love, and see what you can do 🙂
This is a simple tip I have always loved. No longer do all of your chairs at the table have to match! This table is a great example of the character and charm you can bring to a simple 3 piece set. Three vintage chairs mix matched around a vintage table, and look at the results! Timeless and elegant.
This may be a tip parents are flipping through not wanting to read, but it isn’t as scary as it sounds. Yes, you can write on your walls! More and more designers are emphasizing how easy it is to paint back over walls, especially in kids rooms. So plan it out with the kids, let them personalize it, it isn’t permanent!
I think along with every staged room, no matter the aesthetic, you will see books! Books are here to stay. Find books you love, books that are the color you love, paint your books! Everyone seems to have their own way of personalizing that simple thing we all have, and why not?
This one is simple. Paint your closet! Why look at that wood finish you never really cared for, or keep it in the plain white finish it came in. This closet is a good example of the tip done well, what was once a white backdrop with chrome rods is now Benjamin Moore’s Blue Dusk with Brass rods. I think the update is so simple and tasteful!
Give your ceiling a dramatic color! When you tell someone to paint anything in their home black, you can almost see fear. There is nothing to be afraid of, it can in fact make a room look larger and more open. This outdoor area shows you how beautiful and dramatic a painted ceiling can make a room. While a lot of people put a lot of time and money into the walls of a house, the ceilings and floor can make just as much of a statement.
This is cool, using a runner instead of a doormat! You have to have the right space for this one, but what a simple way to spruce up an outdoor entryway.
Line your shelves with your favorite fabric or lace. There are a ton of things you love up on that shelf, and another simple layer makes it that much prettier!
Lastly a tip that asks “why do we hang one big piece of art over the fireplace” …Rather than one large piece, think about your pieces that can work together to create a look or tell a story. I believe we will be seeing a lot of this in the years to come!
