FIRSTS…

OK guys…here it is…my very FIRST blog post!! Since this is my first one, I thought I would tell you a little about all of my “FIRSTS”. I hope you all enjoy…some of these are pretty funny ;))

FIRST HOME:

Well I think I got my interest in the design/construction world VERY honestly! My dad has been in the construction business all of my life…and my first house was a log cabin that HE built!!

Construction lasted about a year…Papa Leo, Mema Velma (Dad’s parents), Papa Ed and Mema Lucille (Mom’s parents) and a few friends all pitched in to help with the work!

Our first puppy. Her name was lady and she was the cutest Siberian Husky with the bluest eyes!!

So those are just a few of my firsts early on in life!

FIRST HOSPITAL VISIT:

OK…now here is a funny story. I was four years old…and my mom, sister and my 3 WEEK old little brother all went to the store. Mom got us Flinstone Vitamins!!

Flinstones-vitamins

I just LOVED these things!! After getting home…and getting our ONE Flinstone Vitamin…I decided that I was still hungry and wanted MORE! SO…I ate 65 out of the bottle of 100. For those wondering…that is all the red and purple ones 😉 They were my favorite! Now what I didn’t know was…these had IRON in them…

Flinstone plus iron
and apparently…this much iron in a four year old is not very good! And landed me a WEEK in the hospital 🙁 That was the VERY LAST time I ever ate a Flinstone Vitamin!!

FIRST BIG MOVE:

Now I was born in Elkin, NC and moved to Raleigh, NC when I was 18 months old. We stayed in the Raleigh/Wake Forest area until I was 12 years old. This is when we moved to Fairview, TN…a little town about 45 minutes from Nashville.

Fairview sign

This was a HUGE move for my entire family…we had never been this far from the rest of our family. It took a bit of getting used to…my sister has now moved back to NC…but my parents are still in Fairview and my brother and I are both in Nashville. North Carolina will always be HOME though!

FIRST CONDO:

When I finished getting my degree at MTSU, I took the summer off and then started my first job at a residential interior design firm. I was there for four years before I decided to buy my first home! A cute little condo!! I closed on my condo on December 29, 2009.

I just LOVE it! I think my very favorite thing about this condo is my antlers. They are all Papa Ed’s, Uncle Jeff’s and mine (YES…I am a hunter)! They are my favorite because they mean so much to me…and it only cost me a can of spray paint and wood plaques from Walmart I got for $1.00 each!

Antlers

I also LOVE Craigslist!!! I mean…I could spend all day looking up anything that could go in a house. Here are some of my great finds for my place…

Elephant side table

This is one of my bedside tables in the master bedroom. $10

Hutch

This is my hutch in my kitchen…it was free because it was a gift…but I think it was only $70!

This is my desk…which is probably been my favorite find! It is 72″ long, is made out of old painted barn wood and has a piece of glass that covers the top…best thing…it was only $40!! The glass alone would cost over $100!

So this is my first home! I live here with my roomie…who has been my friend for almost 6 years now…I just LOVEST her!!!
